Washer Maintenance

The following tasks should be performed once in half a year:

  • Check your manual to find the location of your washer’s lint filter. Remove it and clean it with hot water – you will find a sticky layer of lint on it if the lint filter has not been cleaned for a while. Dry it off and clean with a paper towel.
  • Your inlet hose connection can develop cracks over the time – make sure to check it occasionally as well.

 Washer Cleaning

washing machine with the open doorSome people believe that washing machines clean themselves each cycle, however, unfortunately this is not really the case. You may often tell that your washing machine requires cleaning as it starts producing a bad smell. It is normally advised to clean your appliance at least several times a year. This will surely help you to prevent the bad odor reoccurring.

The following tasks should be performed monthly in order to keep your washer clean:

  • Remove the detergent drawer from the washer and carefully wipe it with a sponge or cloth. The tray may require more attention if it was not cleaned in a while. A toothbrush would help you clean the mold and harder to reach stains.
  • Make sure to pay attention to both the seal and the glass area as you wipe the washing machine door. Wipe the glass with the wet cloth or sponge. You may want to use some bleach and warm water for door seal cleaning. Make sure to remove mold and small debris.
  • Make sure to check the door seal area on your washing machine – there should be no leaks. Cleaning the seals regularly would help prevent mold and small debris from damaging the seal further.
  • Run your empty washer on a hot cycle after that. Add a washing detergent to clear out any mildew and remove the bad smell.
  • To ensure your washing machine keeps the fresh smell keep the door open after you use it.
  • Remove the wet clothes after the washing in order to prevent mold and mildew growth. A failure to remove wet clothes from the chamber may result in both your washing machine and clothes obtaining a bad smell.

Of course, if your washing machine cleaning and maintenance sounds like a burden for you – feel free to give us a call and we will send a professional technician to take care of your appliance!
