Dishwasher Repair and Troubleshooting

dishwasher leakingThe main function of the dishwasher is to clean and rinse dishes, glasses and cookware. The dishwasher combines and heats the mild detergent with water. After that, the dishwasher sprays the mixture against the dishes under pressure. The rinsing cycle starts next – the machine drains the dirty water and then rinses the dishes with the hot water under pressure. In some dishwasher machines, you also have to add a rinsing agent. After the rinsing cycle, the dishwasher heats and dries the dishes. The thermostat in the dishwasher is used to make sure the temperature is sufficient and doesn’t go beyond a certain level.

Rather often it is possible to replace one of the dishwasher’s cheap components, instead of replacing the whole machine when it breaks down.  You are welcome to check the following troubleshooting guide to answer the “Repair or Replace” question.

When your dishwasher doesn’t turn on you will have to check several components. But first of all, please make sure the dishwasher itself has enough power – check the socket and make sure the dishwasher is plugged in properly, and that the wiring in your house is not damaged.

  • The problem can lie in the damaged main fuse or the circuit breaker.
  • Check the door latch. The dishwasher door should close properly as well.
  • Test the door switch – make sure the dishwasher recognizes that the door is closed when you press on it.
  • Check the motor and the selector switch.

Basically, you must have a look at the main components and make sure they are all in perfect working condition.

Dishwasher motor makes a humming noise

First of all, detach the motor and the pump. Check the motor and the start relay for continuity with the multimeter.

Dishwasher is not filling with water or the water is draining while the dishwasher is trying to fill it up.

  • Check the valve under the sink and make sure the water is on.
  • Check the integrity of the door latch, make sure it works properly.
  • Have a look at the float assembly unit.
  • Make sure there are no blockages in the filling tube.
  • Check the drain valve lever.

Keep in mind, that all of these components can be easily replaced. You can always install the spare parts on yourself or call our company and invite a trained technician to do that for you.

The temperature is too high or too low

These kind of problems are pretty common in dishwasher. Wrong temperature can seriously affect the performance of your dishwasher or even damage the appliance components over the time. This is why it is important to address this problem early. The problem can be with the thermostat, however make sure to also perform routine maintenance on your appliance first.

  • Your dishwasher is overloaded.
  • The spray arm is either obstructed by your dishes or damaged.
  • You are using a wrong detergent.
  • The water temperature is too high.

We would advise you to perform the following maintenance on your appliance:

  • Clean the spray arm.
  • Clean the float switch.
  • Clean the valve screen.
