Repair or Replace?

rangeYes, this is true that it is sometimes easier to simply replace the appliance once it starts malfunctioning – we do not really want to bother with all these small problems your stove can acquire over the time, and gradually they would take their toll, making our life harder and less enjoyable. Yet, there are always certain types of problems which can be fixed easily, instead of replacing your appliance whole.

You can have a look at the following symptoms that indicate your stove requires repair or maintenance:

  • It takes longer for your stove to turn on or heat up
  • The power consumption grew bigger
  • Electric burners do not heat evenly
  • The stove produces an unusual sound or smell

If you encounter any of these issues, it can be a good sign that you have to call a repairman or troubleshoot your appliance on your own.

Common Range and Oven Problems

There are several recurring problems, which are normally easy to diagnose and fix.

Electric range does not heat

Whether you diagnose the stove on your own or want to contact our company regarding the repair – please take a note whether or not this problem is localized to a single burner. If you indeed have an issue with only a single burner the problem most likely lies in that burner’s heating coil. You can examine the coil after turning off the stove and letting it cool down. Examine the coil after you take it off the stove. The coil can be physically damaged or have burns on it. You can also swap the coil with the one from another burner to determine if you actually need a new coil, or the problem is with the connection.

If all the burners fail to heat then the problem could be a result of a power surge, damaged wiring or connection, or an issue with your control board.

Electric burners heat can’t be controlled

Sometimes we get a situation similar and yet rather different from the previous one – when burners seem to heat up properly, however the user is not able to adjust the burners temperature properly. The burner either works on full heat or is not heating at all. The issues can be caused by a broken temperature dial, or the switch that is connected to the dial and responsible for the burners’ temperature.

Gas stove won’t light

Overall, the gas stoves are incredibly durable; however, they also have a weak point. The most common issue with the gas stoves is that sometimes they won’t light. If it happens to you and you can smell the gas – make sure to shut it off right away. If your stove has the pilot light and it works correctly then most likely the issue is with something preventing the gas flow. In case you hear the clicks and the pilot light doesn’t start – the problem is in your igniter or the ignition switch. These parts are easily replaceable and most of our technicians are stocked with them all the time.
