Actually, in one of their older ads Amana has claimed that the microwave is the greatest cooking invention since fire. The microwave, at first known as RadaRange, appeared in late ‘40s, and obtained popular recognition in ‘70s. Microwave Maintenance
Microwave is a small and mobile appliance, however caring for your microwave ovens requires more than simply wiping it now and then. You are welcome to schedule an appointment with our technician, to conduct professional microwave maintenance. In general, it is recommended to do it at least once a year. The purpose of the maintenance is:
- To evaluate your microwave performance in general
- Check particular parts and components which might show the signs of wear or need replacement
- Making sure the microwave is energy efficient
- Cleaning the vents
This kind of appointments would not take too much of your time, however they will help you significantly extend the life of your appliance.
Microwave troubleshooting
Here are the most common microwave problems, and some of them can often be repaired on spot, without the need to call the technician.
Microwave won’t heat
This is a common problem, which is often caused by the broken magnetron. Magnetron uses high voltage to produce the microwave frequency which is used to cook food. Often, turning on the empty microwave oven can damage the magnetron. Unfortunately, the burnt part has to be replace, and it would it impossible to perform a DIY repair on it. Yet, the same problem can be caused by many other malfunctioning parts, for example the reason can lie in faulty diodes, damaged capacitor or even a broken door switch!
A bit less common variation of the same problem involves the situation when the microwave starts, but then stops abruptly. It can, again, be caused by the broken door switch, malfunctioning transformer, problems with the fan or faulty touch pad or control board.
Buttons do not work
In this case you most likely have either a malfunctioning touch pad, control panel or the control board. We would suggest to check these parts on continuity with the multimeter, check the wiring and make sure none of these parts are burnt or physically damaged.
Microwave plate does not spin
Microwave ovens have a small rotating motor installed below the place, which facilitates its proper rotation. The most probably reason for this issue is the burnt or damaged motor. You will have to replace the motor in this case. However, sometimes, the problem can be caused by a faulty control board as well.
The light does not turn on
Similar to other kitchen appliances, the microwaves have a small light bulb normally located behind the grill. Sometimes the bulb can be fused. However, there also can be a problem with the malfunctioning bulb socket and bad wiring. If all of these are fine, the problem can be caused by a damaged control board.
Sparking inside the microwave oven
Sparking inside the microwave is common and it does not indicate the appliance is broken. Switch off the microwave immediately and carefully inspect it. The sparking can be caused by the damaged wave guide cover, damaged rack support or even worn out paint.
