The clothes dryer is considered as a necessity in the most households as it simplifies and makes the laundry process significantly shorter. That is why it is important to take care of your dryer and make sure that it continues to serve you properly for as long as it can. Have your clothes dryer professionally installed
To make the most out of your clothes dryer and use it correctly, get it installed by a qualified technician. Have a professional inspect gas dryers annually to assure that supply lines and connections are intact and free of leaks.
Clean the lint filter after every load of laundry
Cleaning the lint filter will help to:
- Prolong the lifespan of your dryer.
- Reduce the risk of a fire by not allowing the motor to burn out prematurely.
- Keep dryer running efficiently by taking less time to dry your clothes. As a result, you can save some money on electricity bill.
Once in three months remove the lint filter, wash it thoroughly to remove any stubborn pieces of lint, dry it completely, and then replace it back into the dryer.
Keep the ventilation tube clean
Lint, dirt, and debris accumulate in the vent tube. It increases drying times and the risk for fire. Clean the vent tube from the inside to the outside vent cap using a cleaning brush once a year.
Replace the plastic dryer vent hose with metallic one
Use non-ribbed metallic vent hose and solid metal elbows to connect dryer and vent cap. White plastic dryer vent hose is not safe as the lint combined with impeded airflow causes overheating and in case the ignition starts, plastic vent hose burns spreading the fire.
Clean the interior of the dryer once a year
Despite you clean the lint filter after every cycle, the lint may build up within the dryer. Unplug the dryer and vacuum inside it using long vacuum hose. Wipe down the drum with a microfiber cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol. Let it dry thoroughly.
Clean the outside of the dryer
Turn off the gas supply before you start cleaning the outside of your gas dryer. Be careful cleaning around the hosing and gas supply lines. Just unplug the electric dryer to clean it.
If you have enough space between the dryer and the walls, It will be easier for you to remove the lint and debris that accumulates around the appliance. While you are cleaning around the dryer, make sure there is plenty of space between your appliance and the walls around it to provide proper ventilation.
Check the vent cap outside
Clear the vent cap from leaves, snow or dirt build up to let the air flow freely.
Do not overload the dryer
It may cause dryer’s breakdown. The clothes need the hot air to circulate. When the dryer is overloaded, the air cannot circulate properly to dry the clothes completely. Large loads increase time to dry and use more energy.
Pay attention to the signs that show your dryer might need service
- Clothes remain damp and need more than one cycle to dry
- Clothes come out hotter than usual
- Dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle
- The top of the dryer is hot to the touch while running
